Playing music together is the best way for people to become friends
Sessions
If you love traditional Irish music, come to our open session every Wednesday night from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Gaelic-American Club in Fairfield, CT (open to the public). This is a great opportunity for all ages and skill levels to come together and play music in a friendly atmosphere.
First Friday Pub Sessions
Members of The Shamrogues participate in sessions sponsored by Gaelic-American Club on the first Friday of each month from 6:00 to 8:00 pm that feature guest musicians from southern New England (open to GAC members and their guests only).
May 1st — Joe Gerhard
Joe learned to play traditional music on the fiddle in the early 70s, sitting on the edge of the Irish sessions in Boston, quietly watching and listening. Fiddlers Larry Reynolds, Paddy Cronin, and Roger Burridge were especially welcoming and helpful. Frequent trips to Ireland led to lifelong friendships with many wonderful musicians, and cemented a love for the music and people of southwest Ireland. Joe led the well-regarded sessions at Anna Liffey’s (New Haven) for 17-years until 2014. These days, he plays fiddle, banjo, and bouzouki with musical partners Damien Connolly and Jon Warner at sessions and gigs around the Northeast.
